Funneling money to fake women’s clinics while defunding Planned Parenthood sends a clear message that our leadership does not care about women’s health; especially low-income women.
At this event, we will talk about what CPCs are, and focus on an issue an aspect of which is currently under consideration by the Supreme Court: Crisis Pregnancy Centers, CPCs, which lie to women and scare and manipulate them in order to prevent them from having abortions.
In North Carolina, eight centers associated with the Carolina Pregnancy Care Fellowship are receiving 1.3 million dollars in state taxpayer money a year – $2.6 million over 2 years! That money should be going to women’s real health care needs. There are 112 CPCs in North Carolina, and only about 13 abortion clinics.

To make matters much worse, on May 18, 2018, the Trump Administration targeted Planned Parenthood, family planning services with a new abortion rule. Groups like Planned Parenthood would be forced to choose between federal funding and offering abortion under the same roof as other services. NPR explores this abortion gag rule proposal in “What Does Trump’s Proposal To Cut Planned Parenthood Funds Mean?” 5/18/18, npr.org.
Planned Parenthood “provides care to more than 40 percent of that [federal family planning] program’s 4 million patients.”
“According to administration officials, the proposed rules they have submitted to the Office of Management and Budget would require facilities receiving federal family planning funds to be physically separate from those that perform abortion; would eliminate the requirement that women with unintended pregnancies be counseled on their full range of reproductive options; and would ban abortion referrals.”
“All those changes would particularly affect Planned Parenthood.”
“Planned Parenthood, which provides a broad array of reproductive health services to women and men, also provides abortion services using non-federal funds. Cutting off funding has been the top priority for anti-abortion-rights groups, which supported candidate Trump.”
Tara Romano, Executive Director of Naral Pro-Choice North Carolina is talking about CPCs. Gailya Paliga, President of NC NOW, is talking about the latest attack on Planned Parenthood and low income women and men.
