We had many exceptional speakers at the #StopKavanaugh rally at Senator Thom Tillis’ office on 9/11/18. Five of of our regulars spent days in Washington DC at the #KavanaughConfirmationHearings. Four of five of them got arrested as part of their protesting.
Rev. Dr. Portia Rochelle, president of the Raleigh/Apex NAACP spoke of dangers of Kavanaugh and also of NAACP suing over perjury! She talked about what a Kavanaugh on the Supreme Court will be like for minorities and for women. “Appointing #Kavanaugh would result in civil rights rollbacks.” Also .. there would be “rollbacks in voting rights, reproductive rights, health care – things that affect our daily living.”
“So many questions [Judge Brett Kavanaugh] refused to answer, which we’re concerned about,” Rev. Dr. Portia Rochelle says. “We must continue to let the world know that his appointment would be a disaster.”
Attorney Al McSurely with great message of “Dare To Struggle, Dare To Win!” McSurely works with Rev. Dr. William Barber, and brought greetings. His whole speech is videoed and posted on the Tuesdays With Tillis facebook page.
Four of five people of the Tuesdays With Tillis group who went to DC to protest the Kavanaugh hearings from 9/4/18-9/7/18 spoke about their experiences. Many got arrested. The one who couldn’t get arrested had her youngest child with her in a stroller. The fifth protester, who had been arrested 4 times in DC with Raging Grannie Ruth Zalph, was in court on charge from protesting #NCGA.
David Freeman posted, “Stacie and her youngest were very compelling. She, Ruth and Scarlett really make a difference. [NJ Senator Cory] Booker released the emails because he was inspired by these protests.”
I do believe the protesters give energy to minority party Senators and also these grassroots protests around the country, and independent protesters descending on the hearings show how strong the opposition is to this candidates and this perverted hearing process. NC NOW President Gailya Paliga spoke about some of the many reasons the confirmation hearings should have been delayed if held at all.
We also want to inspire (or pressure) Senator Thom Tillis to do the right thing. Tillis sits on the pivotal Senate Judiciary Committee, which held the hearings 9/4/18-9/17/18. Call Senator Thom Tillis at (202) 224-6342 and ask/tell him to vote no on Judge Kavanaugh.
While you’re on the phone, call Senator Collins and Senator Murkowski to vote NO on #Kavanaugh, phone numbers in the picture! They are women, and pro-choice Republicans. They’re getting it from all sides, but as pro-choice women, we need them to do the right thing! Let’s keep the pressure on.
