The NC Legislature called this special session months ago in anticipation of being able to implement some or all of the constitutional amendments. Many organizations are working together to expose what they are doing. Events are planned in and around the Legislative Building at 16 W. Jones St on Tuesday, Nov 27, 2018. Please come to some or all if you can, or just come to witness the legislature’s actions, and make sure they know we care and are watching.
NC NOW is part of the HKonJ coalition with the NAACP, so those events are included. The legislature begins (gavels in) at noon, but events begin at 10am at the Bicentennial Mall, which is across the street from the Legislative Building.
Schedule (subject to change):
10:00 am at Bicentennial Mall: Gathering/Fellowship/Meet-up with Rev. Dr. William J. Barber II and Rev. Dr. T. Anthony Spearman for this All Roads Lead to Raleigh Moral Day of Action. Facebook event at https://www.facebook.com/events/355178611957712/.
10:30 am at Bicentennial Mall: Press Conference with coalition of organizations, including Progress NC, Democracy NC, NAACP, NC Voters for Clean Elections, A Just Florence Recovery, etc. Facebook event at https://www.facebook.com/events/542441646161278/.
12:00 pm in NC House and NC Senate Galleries – gaveling in. We expect the NC House and NC Senate to gavel in and leave after a few minutes, hoping the crowds will disperse.
12:00 pm – 2:00 pm at Halifax Mall (out back of Legislative Building) – Florence Survivors’ Day Of Action – because hurricane survivors are still waiting for the State Legislature to provide disaster housing and assistance for residents impacted by Hurricane Florence and Hurricane Michael! Supplies for hurricane victims would be appreciated. Facebook event at https://www.facebook.com/events/481674822340281/.
2:00pm NC House and Senate expected to really begin (no guarantee on time but people should be ready).
