Medicaid Expansion Vigils around NC on 6/5/19

Many organizations including NC NOW are joining the North Carolina Justice Center Health Advocacy Project in simultaneous vigils all over the state demanding expansion of Medicaid on Wednesday, June 5, 2019.  The importance of expanding Medicaid cannot be overstated.  Without health care people die.

“Join us for a candlelight vigil remembering the people who have suffered or died because they could not get the health care they needed. Vigils will take place throughout the state on the same day at the same time, because unaffordable health care affects all of North Carolina. Join us shine a light on the need for healthcare for everyone and the need to light a fire under the legislature.”

Over 20 vigils are set up. Find the following in the RTP area alone.

  • Raleigh: 7-8 pm North Carolina State Legislative building
  • Durham: 7-8 pm CCB Plaza, 201 North Corcoran St
  • Pittsboro, 7-8 pm, Pittsboro Historic Courthouse
  • Apex, 7-8 pm, 73 Hunter Street
  • Chapel Hill, 7-8 pm, 179 East Franklin St
  • Fuquay-Varina, 7-8 pm, 116 Aiken St

If you don’t see one near you, click here; it contains many more vigils and more information about each one.

NC NOW has written repeatedly about benefits of expanding Medicaid, and encouraged members to write. Expanding Medicaid would be a win/win/win for North Carolinians – more health care coverage for those who can’t afford it (mostly women), more jobs in every county of our state, and billions of dollars in federal money feeding into the state.
