NC NOW 2021 State Conference Panels

The 2021 NC NOW State Conference includes two panels, one on Friday evening and one on Saturday morning.   More detailed information on panelists is in the conference program. Panels are

  • Standing Strong for Environmental Justice with Chapel Hill NOW, moderated by Gerrie Richards and Virginia Carson. This panel is Friday evening at 6:45pm.
  • Standing Strong for Reproductive Justice, moderated by Gailya Paliga. This panel is Saturday morning at about 11:00am.

“Standing Strong for Reproductive Justice” features Representative Julie von Haefen, Senator Natalie Murdock, and Zeta Sorority Leader La Toya Hankins.

“Standing Strong for Environmental Justice and Women” features the following people:

Chandra Taylor is a senior attorney in the Southern Environmental Law Center’s Chapel Hill office specializing in water quality and environmental justice issues.

Amelia Covington (she/her/hers) is a field organizer with Climate Action NC, a project of the League of Conservation Voters, in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Deborah Dicks Maxwell is currently the President of the New Hanover County NAACP and NC NAACP District Director for Bladen Brunswick, Columbus, New Hanover, Onslow and Pender Counties.

Professor Danielle Spurlock is an assistant professor in the City and Regional Planning department at UNC Chapel Hill.

The conference program will include more in-depth biographies on all panelists and other speakers.
