Chapel Hill NOW honored Dianne Jackson and Anissa McLendon. They were the first women selected to receive the Jan Allen Award. This award honors women who have worked to improve the lives of women and girls.

The awards ceremony began at 4:10 pm at Present Day on Main St in Carrboro. It was followed by a reception with light refreshments. The event was in an outdoor area, which allowed for safe social distancing.

The Allen Award will continue to be presented each year. This award also honors the legacy of Jan Allen, a barrier breaking feminist, long time NC NOW board members and president of Chapel Hill NOW, as well as a co-founder of Lillian’s list, a vital resource for women running for office in North Carolina.
