NC NOW Legislative Update #24 – 7/29/19

Updates on state budget bill which had been vetoed by Governor Cooper, and a stand-alone bill to expand Medicaid. The most noteworthy development this week was that Rep. Cody Henson, R-Transylvania, has resigned his seat after pleading guilty to cyberstalking his estranged wife. Read more here. There was no legislative update for 7/22/19.

DV Situation Playing Out Now in Western NC, Public Forums Planned

It took nearly a year for the wife of an elected official to get a restraining order against her husband in Western North Carolina. The situation is being revealed in news articles in Transylvania County and Buncombe County. The issue of domestic violence is being explored in public forums, currently planned for February and March of 2019.
