Advocates from NC National Organization of Women, NARAL Pro-Choice NC, Planned Parenthood South Atlantic, Action NC, Tuesdays with Tillis, MomsRisingNC and others rallied outside of Senator Thom Tillis’ Raleigh office to demand an end to policies which restrict women’s access to reproductive and other health care. Threats range from various bills banning abortions, to giving away taxpayer money to religious anti-abortion clinics, to cutting off a trusted and proven provider of real medical care to the women most impacted by attacks on reproductive health access.

“What do you get when you put 16 Grannies, 2 Honorary Grannies, 2 professional photographers, a dog, and a cat all together in the same room? One helluva great time and 2 powerful videos!” – Triangle Raging Granny Vicki Ryder
Two Videos were filmed on Women’s Issues with Triangle Raging Grannies on 7/5/19. The videos are in support of women’s health and family planning clinics, and in protest against tax funding for CPCs. Words were written and/or updated by Vicki Ryder, who also ran the video shoot.
The Trump administration finalized sweeping changes to Title X, the federal program that provides birth control and other reproductive health services to millions of low-income Americans on 2/22/19. The new #DomesticGagRule was published in the Federal Register on 3/4/19. Lawsuits were filed the same day.
Changes are scheduled to go into effect on 5/3/19.
NC NOW, Naral Pro-Choice NC, Planned Parenthood South Atlantic (PPSAT) and #Fight4Her spoke out against the #DomesticGagRule in front of Senator Thom Tillis’ office in Raleigh on 3/12/19. The event included music, including a new song, “No! No! No! You Don’t!” to the tune of Row Your Boat, from the Raging Grannies. “No! No! No! You Don’t! by Raging Grannies.

The Senate Confirmation Hearings for Judge Brett Kavanaugh begin on 9/4/18. Protests are planned around the state this week, many on Tuesday, September 4th. Feel free to make your own and post in a comment or email president at raleighnow.org so we can help advertise.
These events are focused on our US Senators, Thom Tillis and Richard Burr, since our Senators get to vote on this nomination. In fact, it is their Senate duty of “advice and consent.” Under the Constitution, presidential nominations for executive and judicial posts take effect only when confirmed by the Senate. The Senate’s job is to make sure the nominee is qualified, and if not, to vote no.

Raleigh at Tillis’ office- The weekly Tuesdays With Tillis rally topic is “Stop Kavanaugh.” We always have a great showing for these, but this week we’re pulling in speakers on a variety of topics – reproductive rights, LGBTQ rights, civil rights/discrimination, environment, workers’ rights, abortion access threats, immigrant rights, threats to Planned Parenthood services. These areas and more are threatened should Brett Kavanaugh get a lifetime appointment on the US Supreme Court.
Date: Tuesday, 9/4/18

Even just the titles of the listed articles give you an idea how terrible this state budget is. This is the state budget for which the NCGA leadership subverted the process so there can be no amendments or discussion on it. NC NOW Vice President of Legislation Robin Davis described how this was done and why in the NC NOW Legislative Update for the Short Session #2. When she wrote it, most people, including Democratic lawmakers, had not even seen the budget yet! Now more people have seen it and many are angry and upset! These articles explain a few of the major issues being discovered in this budget that was written behind closed doors, and delve in if you dare!
There have been some amazingly scathing articles on the legislative leadership (Senator Phil Berger & Rep. Tim Moore) circumventing the normal budget process. Berger and Moore and their buddies are shutting out the voices of citizens and other lawmakers. Here are 2 of my favorites.
