Read about our second Women’s Equality Day March and Rally in Durham. The theme was Women Rise Up, and our speakers gave voice to problems women face and actions people can take. The event was on a beautiful day and in a beautiful place – the American Tobacco Campus in Durham, NC.
People have been protesting in front of US Senator Thom Tillis’ office in Raleigh every week since the inauguration in January 2017. Women in Wilmington protested NC Senator Thom Goolsby’s law office every Monday because of the motorcycle abortion bill fiasco in 2013. He eventually resigned. These protest make a difference. Thanks to all of the people who consistently go out to protest. We will not be ignored!

We will celebrate the victories for equality that women have won and rededicate ourselves to eliminating all discrimination against women. Charlotte NOW participated in the Charlotte March for Education held at Marshall Park in uptown Charlotte on Saturday, Jul 22. Similar marches were held in Washington DC and around the country. There was a very enthusiastic group of supporters on a very hot summer day. Melba Evans spoke on behalf of the Charlotte NOW chapter.
The Wheel of Misfortune was the coolest feature of the last “Tuesdays with Tillis” protest. Also included a march, speakers, a die-in and attempted delivery of a dramatic wreath. July 5 theme is taking coverage away from Veterans. The July 11 theme is women and children.
Lots of events from which to choose this week – one more tax rally in Wilmington, an education rally in Raleigh, a panel on immigration and what people can do, and the March for Science on April 22 in Raleigh.
