Please write, email and/or call your NC House representative to vote to maintain Governor Cooper’s veto of the so called “Born Alive” bill (vote against the veto override). Also write Speaker of the House Tim Moore at how outraged you are at the games being played to override the veto. Here is how to find your representative and ideas on what you can say. If you write or email, your representative should write you back.

Good news first – New York and Vermont are protecting abortion rights. However, as of 5/17/19, Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, Missouri, Ohio, and Utah have passed new antiabortion laws, and similar bills are pending in other states. These laws are designed to oppress and control women. The goal is to overturn Roe v Wade, using the new makeup of the US Supreme Court with Brett Kavanaugh and Neil Gorsuch.

NC_NOW_Legislative_Update_#12.22Apr19.v2 includes the summary and listing of NC Senate and House bills. Written by Robin Davis, NC NOW Vice President of Political Action.
Veto of Junk Science Anti-Abortion Bill, Some Good Bills, and a Fair Ruling
The good news is that Governor Cooper has vetoed SB359, The Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act. The bill swept through the legislature last week at dizzying speed, and the Governor vetoed it almost as soon as it hit his desk.
“Laws already protect newborn babies and this bill is an unnecessary interference between doctors and their patients,” the Democratic governor said in his veto message. “This needless legislation would criminalize doctors and other healthcare providers for a practice that simply does not exist.”

Domestic Gag Rule Brings the Trump/Pence War On Women Stateside
On 2/22/19, the Trump administration finalized sweeping changes to Title X, the federal program that provides birth control and other reproductive health services to millions of low-income Americans. These regulations ban federal family planning funds from going to health providers who perform or refer patients for abortion services, and force abortion providers under the program to physically separate abortion services from other family planning services. These regulations ban federally funded health-care providers from even mentioning the word “abortion.” Limiting what U.S. health providers can say to patients amounts to a domestic “gag rule.” Gag rules are designed to hurt women, and they do so with devastating efficiency. Join NOW, Naral Pro-choice NC, Planned Parenthood (PP) and #Fight4HER at 11:30am on 3/12/19 at 310 New Bern Ave in Raleigh to learn more and communicate issues to Senator Thom Tillis.
