A third of female undergraduate UNC students reported sexual assault, and 9% of them had been drugged before they were assaulted, according to a survey by the Association of American Universities. State laws must be improved to prosecute these crimes, and universities must do more. An Equal Rights Amendment would help long term.

Constitution Day is the perfect time to educate Americans that women are not equally protected under our constitution, and about what could remedy that. The Equal Means Equal documentary shows how women and girls are treated in multiple areas. Actions you can take to move legal fairness along.
Our NC state government is sponsoring a once in a lifetime event – Women Breaking Barriers – at the state Capital in Raleigh on 9/7/19. Women Breaking Barriers is part of the “She Changed The World” series of events focused on women running from May 2019 through December 2020. At the NC NOW table, we’ll be running a Women in Science Jeopardy game and selling our new NOW t-shirts. Our jeopardy game goes great with the theme, as it’s all about women who changed the world! Triad NOW will have their own table with activities on women’s history and LGBTQ history. ERA-NC Alliance will highlight need for ERA. League of Women Voters helped organize the program and is doing a skit, among other things. The event ran from 10-3pm. Beautiful campaign! The event runs from 10-3pm. Come to the event and visit our table, or come help staff our table.
If you have not seen this important documentary, Equal Means Equal, now is your chance! If you’ve only seen it once, you may want to see it again. It shows us the real situation of women in the United States. Very intense. We will discuss afterward.
Unveiling 4 new ERA billboards with a press conference at the NC Legislature. The legislature passed and the Governor vetoed HB370, Require Sheriff Cooperation with ICE. North Carolina NOW supported the veto. Update on state budget stalemate.
Join us in for the re-enactment of the 1848 Women’s Convention held in Seneca Falls, New York, and the presentation of the Parade of Suffragists. The Women’s Convention is regarded as the beginning of the modern feminist movement, and the parade is to highlight profiles of feminists from the past two centuries. This play was written by Fayetteville NOW member Ethelyn Holden.
All four new ERA billboards are installed, and have the same great message – we have 4.2 million women living in North Carolina, but zero women have equal rights. NC NOW is proud to partner with the ERA-NC Alliance and AAUW of North Carolina on billboard campaign to promote state-wide interest in and support of ERA. We want women and men to ask what is the ERA if they don’t know already, and we want all to help get NC to ratify it! See where to find the billboards and what they look like here!
