Virbrant, exciting event at the NCGA on March 5, 2019, timed with the 2019 Ratify ERA bills that were filed. The event brought over 200 activists, organizations and media from across the state with the purpose of showing legislators how very serious women are to make NC the 38th and final state needed for formal ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment.
Members went to the ERA filing events on 3/5/19 from around the state. Pam Carver from Fayetteville NOW shares her personal experiences.
The January, February and March 2019 newsletter is available. January and February have been a whirlwind of activity – 6 women’s marches around the state, getting people to other marches, NC NOW’s annual pro-choice signature ad, and organizing other events and advocacy days. Also, strong reactions to administration activities and lawmakers.
2019 Women’s march events were organized in Asheville, Charlotte, Raleigh, Wilmington, Black Mountain and Albamarle. Themes and dates varied but interest and excitement stayed high! One was organized by middle school girls! A little about each of them here.
We invite you to join us in the afternoon on Tuesday, March 5, 2019, in Raleigh to support our North Carolina legislators, who are filing the bills necessary to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. Here in North Carolina, we have the historic chance to bring equal rights to every citizen of the United States of America. North Carolina can be the 38th of 38 states needed to ratify the ERA. You can help!
NC NOW’s Legislative Update #1 for the 2019 Long Session, includes ERA Advocacy Day, link to new legislators from both parties, talk of medicaid expansion, update on rape kit processing, and revival of ‘floaters’ as ways for Republicans to control committees.
NC NOW members attended an ERA Advocacy Day at the Legislative Building and Legislative Office Building in Raleigh on Wednesday, 1/30/19. Women delivered two things to each legislator – a letter from the ERA-NC Alliance and Legalize Equality, a 30 minute DVD which makes the case for ERA. Great timing since January 30 was the legislators’ first day back and many legislators, or at least their assistants, were available.
North Carolina has a historic chance to be the 38th — and final! — state to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA). Join us as we bring that message to our legislators. We need them to know that North Carolina wants equal rights for all – women and men! #ALLforERA One more state. Not one more genERAtion. ERA Advocacy Day on 1/30/19.
Exciting events coming up in 2019 – with excellent speakers coming and plenty of marches and rallies.
