Rural hospitals are cutting services and even worse, closing. Billions of dollars meant to support health care in NC have been sent to other states, to those states smart enough to take advantage of great deal to expand Medicaid. Stop hurting NC’s people and economy, Senator Phil Berger and House Speaker Tim Moore. Expand Medicaid NOW! The Coronavirus is exposing how close to the edge many people live with no savings and no health care and so many jobs lost or suspended during the pandemic. More people will die because local hospitals have closed, hospitals that expanding Medicaid would have supported.
NC NOW is sharing Health Action NC’s letter to the NCGA leadership and Governor Cooper to close the coverage gap in NC by expanding Medicaid. 158 orgs, business owners and associations signed on in a matter of days. You can sign a petition urging NC Legislature to Expand Medicaid as an Emergency Response to coronavirus COVID-19.
Lawmakers, workers, business owners to announce on 3/19/19 legislation raising the minimum wage to $15 an hour over five years, ending sub-minimum wages, repealing exemptions for agricultural and domestic workers. This $15in5 type bills has been introduced before and would help women more than anyone else. 2/3 of minimum wage workers are women, according to the National Women’s Law Center. Full time minimum wage workers are paid only $15,080 a year. Near impossible to live on that, especially for a woman with children.

I learned so much from a man I knew so little about, that man’s name was Gene R. Nichol. I went not knowing what to expect, I came out feeling empowered knowing that there’s someone out there who cares. For 2 hours it felt as if I was constantly being punched in the back by Mike Tyson, and kicked by Bruce Lee.
