Charlotte City Council for voting for quiet zones around churches, schools and medical facilities! It is long overdue! The women’s clinics have been harassed for years and years.
“Abortion Is Healthcare” was the theme of the 125th week of rallies at Senator Thom Tillis’ office in Raleigh. This event included national, statewide and local updates on abortion and clinics access. Emcees and speakers included Gailya Paliga, President of NC NOW, Tara Romano, Executive Director of Naral Pro-choice North Carolina and Kelsea McLain, A Woman’s Choice Clinic of Raleigh. Topics went from challenges women face to solutions moving in the US House, and what we need from Senator Tillis and other representatives.
Abortion has been all over the news lately. Different types of abortion bans have become law recently in various states. Missouri is trying hard to shut down the last clinic in Missouri. In fact, in the midst of the fight between the state and the last clinic, Missouri just added a punitive regulation requiring women seeking a legal abortion in the state to undergo a mandatory, medically unnecessary, invasive pelvic examination. North Carolina has its own drama that played out with one of the abortion ban bills. Hear about all of this and why abortion is health care and women continue to need access to them and other aspects of reproductive care. Join us to support safe and legal abortion.
NC NOW is long time advocate to keep abortion safe and legal. See our ad in the Indy, and some of our involvement in the #stopthebans events around NC around May 21, 2019.

Women are setting up protests around North Carolina and around the country for Tuesday, May 21, 2019. Here are the ones around North Carolina, and here is how to find one near you. If there isn’t one yet, you can make your own! Like the women’s marches.
With the confirmation of Judge Kavanaugh to the U.S. Supreme Court, there is more danger than ever before that Roe v. Wade could be overturned or its application severely restricted. If federal protection for abortion rights is denied or diminished, the battle to defend women’s reproductive rights will shift to the states. Here in North Carolina, the forces for abortion rights have been historically strong, but in this political climate our voices must grow stronger and our support for a woman’s right to choose must become more visible. The pro-choice signature ad is one way to make your support for choice visible.
Events around the state starting 9/4/18, timed with the start of confirmation hearings of Judge Brett Kavanaugh for US Supreme Court. Kavanaugh is an extremist and would be devastating to all kinds of people and the environment. Link to action as well.
Funneling money to fake women’s clinics while defunding Planned Parenthood sends a clear message that our leadership does not care about women’s health; especially low-income women. At this 5/22/18 event, we will focus on Crisis Pregnancy Centers, CPCs, which lie to women and scare and manipulate them in order to prevent them from having abortions. CPCs being allowed to lie is currently under consideration by the Supreme Court. Also looking at state and federal funding sources, and the new Trump attack on Planned Parenthood funding that just happened on 5/18/18.
