Past Signature Ad Appeal Letters

You can follow what’s been going on in North Carolina with regard to abortion access and reproductive rights by perusing past pro-choice signature ads! Here are some of them. These letters cover years after North Carolina turned hostile toward women and reproductive rights. North Carolina had been a relatively progressive state before 2011. We have been even more excited about NC NOW’s annual Pro-choice Signature Ad since each year has had a new look starting in 2020.

The 2020 ad was blue with a picture in with the names. That picture was from the abortion bans rally in Raleigh in 2019. We topped that in 2021 by incorporating an original painting of Ruth Bader Ginsburg created for us by artist Kathy Kos in 2021 (see above). In 2022, we quoted US Solicitor General Elizabeth Barchas Prelogar, in her impressive testimony in the Dobbs v. Jackson case, and incorporated her picture into the 2022 signature ad (see below).

In 2023, we honored Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi. As Vice President Kamala Harris said in a speech, “Speaker Nancy Pelosi has not only made history, she has shaped it. She has not only broken glass ceilings, she has shown the world – and young women in particular – that there is no ceiling they cannot reach.” She also said “As a fierce defender of democracy, she has stood up for our nation’s most sacred ideals during some of our darkest moments.” See the ad for what Speaker Pelosi said about the US Supreme Court and the Dobbs decision.
