Free early screening of TRAPPED in Raleigh on 5/6/16

We are screening ‘Trapped’ on Friday, May 6, at 7pm at WorkPlace Options (WPO), 2912 Highwoods Blvd, in Raleigh. Filmmaker Dawn Porter examines how abortion laws affect doctors, patients and clinics in different states.

Trapped is about TRAP laws – the Targetted Regulation of Abortion Providers. TRAP laws provide other ways to financially handicap and often close women’s clinics.

The NY Times reviews the film at “Review: ‘Trapped,’ a Documentary, Looks at Abortion Clinics in the South,” 3/4/16.

There is a current Supreme Court case in which it is acknowledged “how targeted regulation of abortion providers (TRAP) laws in Texas are designed to shut down more than 75% of all women’s health clinics that provide abortion services in the state,” according to “Whole Woman’s Health v. Hellerstedt: A Rally to Remember,” 3/30/16.

Read about another very important Supreme Court case, this one about birth control coverage, at “Supreme Court Case Zubik v. Burwell attacks Birth Control Coverage,” 4/8/16.

The April 2016 NC NOW newsletter talks about the effects of Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia on page 2.  Find it at “Latest Newsletter is full of news like how HB2 is disastrous for women.”

Other NC NOW chapters (and other women’s organizations) have showed this film as well.  Triad NOW showed it in Winston-Salem on 5/3/16.  AAUW showed it in Pinehurst on 5/2/16.  IPAS and CAF are planning to show it soon too.

Thanks to Ultraviolet for making it available!
